Yasuko Iba, A Way of Seeing 伊庭靖子展 まなざしのあわい

Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, 8-36 Ueno-koen, Taito City, Tokyo
2019-7-20 - 2019-10-9

Her first solo exhibition at a museum in ten years, focusing on her recent work

Yasuko Iba (b.1967) is an artist who captures her scenes through a combination of fine detail - giving them an almost tactile quality - and a realistic depiction of light. Her specialty is pictures based on photographs she herself has taken. This exhibition centers around works painted from photos taken at Tokyo Metropolitan Museum, while also showcasing prints and experimental new video art by the artist. This is Iba’s first solo exhibition at an art museum in ten years. While looking at new, recent works, the exhibition also shows earlier pieces, allowing visitors to view the development of her art over the last ten years.
