Okutama & Around

The Okutama Noryo Fireworks Festival is held in the verdant town of Okutama. Around 1000 fireworks offer a stunning showcase of artistic pyrotechnics, illuminating the mountains and echoing through the landscape. The launch area is at the summit of Mt. Atago, high above the town, so the show is visible from a wide area around Okutama Station. This year, the festival celebrates 70 years since Okutama was officially designated as a town.

Alongside the fireworks, you can experience Okutama's local traditions. You'll see mikoshi (portable shrines) and performances of a shishimai lion dance, which both feature heavily in annual festivals held by two local shrines: Okuhikawa-jinja and Haguromita-jinja.
