Norabo Greens Festival のらぼうまつり

187 Konakano, Akiruno-shi, Tokyo

Norabo greens are a specialty of the Akigawa Valley, and they are the star of the show at this annual festival held at Koyasu Shrine in the Konakano area. There is a norabo monument within the shrine's grounds, showing the connection the surrounding region has to norabo plants.

It's believed that norabo have been cultivated since before the start of the Edo period. The hardy greens are able to withstand cold well. It's been said that in past times of great famine, people were able to survive thanks to norabo. Visit this festival on Sunday, March 31, to feel the charm of the local area, and pick up some norabo for yourself.
