"B-class gourmet" is a common Japanese expression that typically refers to delicious, casual food that's just as good as what you get at a fancy restaurant. This cooking competition, which uses ingredients from Oshima Island, takes things one step further. The three categories in this C-class competition are Challenge, Country and Communication. Participants tackle new menus, create rustic dishes and build rapport with diners. But there's another "C" too—the sea surrounding Oshima Island, which becomes a theme for more cooking. Even more casual than B-rank gourmet, C-rank cooking is delicious, satisfying and a whole lot of fun.
