Bunkyo Kiku Matsuri (Chrysanthemum Festival) 文京菊まつり

How to Get There

  • Yushima Sta. | Exit 3 | 2 mins on foot
  • Chiyoda Line

Yushima Tenjin Shrine (also known as Yushima Tenmangu Shrine) is widely known as the home of the kami (deity) of scholars. This year's chrysanthemum festival showcases 2,000 lovingly tended flowers in full bloom, spread across the shrine grounds. The highlight of the festival is the chrysanthemum dolls. As part of a fantastic tradition unique to Tokyo, chrysanthemums are arranged to look like human figures. Also on show are spectacular ozukuri (dome-shaped arrays of hundreds of blossoms), giant cascading blooms and carefully arranged tray landscapes. Treat yourself to a leisurely day surrounded by gorgeous chrysanthemums.
