Each summer, Tokyo's Edogawa City celebrates its rich tradition of goldfish-rearing, a practice that began in the late 1800s, with a festival that features over 20,000 fish.

Try your hand at a kingyo sukui (goldfish scooping) tournament, where your goal is to scoop up as many goldfish as you can into a bowl of water–but without tearing a fragile scooper known as the poi. Also, if you are keen to start your own aquarium, you will benefit from consulting the experts who are on hand to dole out advice.

The festival is typically held on the third weekend of July at Edogawa Municipal Gyosen Park, which is near Nishi-kasai Station on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line and Funabori Station on the Toei Shinjuku Line.
