    The Tama Area, located on the west side of Tokyo, is home to suburban areas as well as rich natural spots surrounded by mountains and rivers. In addition to enjoying hiking, river activities, and other outdoor activities, it is also worth visiting the farm shops selling agricultural products, the hot springs, and the vast parks where visitors can spend all day relaxing.

From trendy areas making it a fashion capital to friendly, traditional working-class neighborhoods, Tokyo is a dynamic place where cultures intersect.

  • Central Tokyo (Tokyo Station Area, Tsukiji, Ginza, etc.)

    This area is perfect for enjoying quintessential Tokyo sightseeing activities, such as shopping at classic department stores, eating sushi at the Tsukiji Outer Market, and catching a performance at the Kabukiza Theatre. In recent years, the impressive red brick Tokyo Station has become a popular photo spot. The area also offers a range of other enjoyable options, including taking in a baseball game at the Tokyo Dome, wandering the streets of the Jimbocho used-bookstore district in Kanda, and tasting the fare at izakaya bars in the nightlife district in Shimbashi.

  • Northern Tokyo (Asakusa, Ueno, etc.)

    Northern Tokyo is an area for enjoying Tokyo’s charming old-fashioned neighborhoods, including the popular Asakusa neighborhood. Take a leisurely stroll through an old-fashioned shopping district; who knows, you may come across new local foods and meet friendly locals. Ueno Park, along with being a famous spot for its cherry blossoms in the spring, is home to several art museums, museums, and a zoo. One day may not be enough to see it all.

    Friendly, traditional working-class neighborhoods have retained their character, making this a popular area with visitors from overseas. See Japan's unique sumo culture and traditional crafts up close. Discover a different side of Tokyo from the view on a Sumida River cruise or the view from TOKYO SKYTREE®, which overlooks entire the Kanto region.

  • Western Tokyo (Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Ikebukuro, Nakano, etc.)

    This area is also popular as a fashion and culture capital. Shibuya Crossing is a busy intersection and has become famous overseas. Not only are the areas around Shibuya, Harajuku, and Aoyama home to numerous brands and buildings full of fashion stores; the areas along the Chuo Line are home to vintage clothing stores, cafes, and live music venues, and Ikebukuro is a bustling subculture center, all of which are checking out.

  • Southern Tokyo (Toyosu, Odaiba, Roppongi, Tokyo Tower, Haneda Airport, etc.)

    Tokyo Tower, a symbol of the city, and the surrounding Roppongi and Azabu neighborhoods are also famous as international areas lined with skyscrapers and embassies. The bustling nightlife areas and the night views are also highlights. The waterfront areas, such as Haneda Airport—a gateway to Tokyo—and Odaiba and Toyosu Market, are home to numerous leisure and shopping spots.

  • Tokyo Islands Area (Izu Islands, Ogasawara Islands)

    Leave central Tokyo by airplane or ship and cross the blue sea to the Tokyo Islands. The Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands are part of Tokyo. Visitors may spot dolphins and whales as well as native flora and fauna while snorkeling among the coral reefs or hiking around the islands. Experience the slower, relaxed life on the islands.
