Are you a beach fan or a pool fan?
Water recreation is perfect for cooling off in Tokyo’s sweltering summer, and the city’s beaches and swimming pools are popular destinations every year. Visitors willing to take a short trip have a range of choices for delighting in water activities.
Pool fans will enjoy leisure facilities like Toshimaen and Yomiuri Land, which provide a full spectrum of water-park features, including water slides and a lazy river, fun for everyone from children to adults.
For beach fans, the closest spot is Odaiba Beach, an artificial beach some 800 meters long in the heart of Tokyo (swimming is not allowed). Visitors can enjoy seaside activities while taking in the view of Rainbow Bridge and the skyscrapers on the opposite shore, or even participate in the various events typically organized in an urban location.
Also recommended are the beaches of the Izu Islands, where white waves crashing into the cobalt blue sea make up a natural resort. At Tokyo’s subtropical Ogasawara Islands, listed as a natural World Heritage Site, visitors can experience a unique evolutionary process of nature.
