2019-11-19 - 2020-01-19

The collection of Hokusai’s masterpieces from Hokusai Museum, Obuse in Nagano.

Marking the 170th anniversary of Katsushika Hokusai’s death, the Sumida Hokusai Museum is conducting an exchange with the Hokusai Museum, Obuse in Nagano to host this exhibition. This exhibition theme is “Visual Magic”. It delves into the appeal of Hokusai’s work, which incorporates unnatural composition and shapes in pieces that do not make us feel there is anything unnatural about them. This is a rare and precious opportunity to see a selection of work from throughout Hokusai’s life, and includes hand-painted pieces in addition to woodblock prints such as his famous “Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji”.
*Some pieces will be replaced during the exhibition period.
