Commemorating 30 Years of Conservation Projects Supported by the Sumitomo Foundation Special Thematic Exhibition: New Life for Timeless Art 住友財団修復助成30年記念 特別企画「文化財よ、永遠に」

Tokyo National Museum, 13-9 Ueno Park, Taito City, Tokyo
2019-10-1 - 2019-12-1

An exhibition of Buddha statues from across Japan that have survived through the ages

To mark thirty years of the Sumitomo Foundation’s funding efforts for projects to preserve and restore cultural properties, the museum is one of four venues hosting pieces that have received funds. From among these, Tokyo National Museum is exhibiting a range of Buddhist statues. Many such statues have survived from antiquity across Japan, showing how important they have been to the communities that have preserved them. This exhibition showcases many of these items, which have been protected and handed down through the generations, including statues from communities affected by the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and the 2007 Noto Hanto Earthquake.
