An exhibition focused on examples of ink art and writing from the museum’s collection, including ink wash paintings and calligraphy. The art of inkbrush expression has been passed down in an unbroken line since ancient times. The event’s focus this time is on ink wash paintings and calligraphy with a dynamic quality, which excite surprise in the viewer. Enjoy the skill of improvisation found in works that developed organically across their silk and paper canvasses. Around 40 pieces painted in Japan and China are on display in addition to ceramics from the collection. The national treasure Murasaki Shikibu Diary Emaki picture scroll is on special display from October 12 through October 20.
*Some pieces will be replaced during the exhibition period.
