Festivals & Events
Tamahime Inari Shrine is located in the northern part of Taito Ward, and this event is held for two days on the last Saturday and Sunday in April both within the grounds of the shrine and in the vicinity. “Kon-Kon Kutsu Ichi” is a voluntary gathering of local shoemakers with exhibitions by more than 30 companies.
Each of the companies displays a variety of products they make such as men’s shoes, women’s shoes, sneakers, sandals, bags, belts, and leather accessories and these items sell for between 60 and 90 percent off retail value as a way of saying thanks.
There are also events visitors can participate in such as a ceremony to give thanks for old shoes and a huge raffle with extravagant prizes.
There’s also a parade featuring the only mikoshi floats in the shape of men’s and women’s shoes anywhere in Japan that brings additional excitement to the market. Leather materials for craft use are on sale for incredible prices, and giving the proceeds from purchases as charity to the Japan Red Cross is another initiative that’s part of the event.
There’s also another event called “Kutsu no Megumi Matsuri Ichi” held at Tamahime Inari Shrine for two days on the last Saturday and Sunday of November.
