The Fuchu Kosatsuba 高札場

5-1 Miyanishicho, Fuchu City, Tokyo

The Fuchu Kosatsuba was built during the Edo period at the intersection of the east-to-west Koshu Kaido Road and the north-to-south Kawagoe Kaido Road (now: Fuchu Kaido Road). This is where the shogunate posted notifications for all to see. It remains here today as a kosatsuba of the Gokaido Roads, the five historical roads of Japan. The structural remains are a great treasure, and during the Edo period it was built facing north across from the Koshu Kaido Road. It has been designated as a historic site of Tokyo.
