The Museum of Modern Japanese Literature 日本近代文学館

A home for Japanese literature lovers

Located in Komaba Park, the Museum of Modern Japanese Literature is home to hundreds of thousands of books, letters, magazines, diaries, videos, manuscripts related to over one hundred and fifty modern Japanese authors that are available for you to browse.

Peruse documents related to authors such as Natsume Soseki, Ryunosuke Akutagawa, and Yasunari Kawabata.

While the main collection may be difficult to navigate for those unable to read Japanese, the museum also offers rotating exhibits with various themes. With cozy reading spaces and a small café, it makes for a relaxing stop, perfect for any quiet afternoon out. The stately Maeda Residence across from the museum is also well worth a visit.
