The impressive gate and weeping cherry tree of Togo-ji Temple

Togo-ji Temple was built to commemorate fleet admiral Heihachiro Togo, who distinguished himself in the Russo-Japanese War. The present location of the temple is the site of his former villa.

Walk through the huge gateway that acts as the entrance to Togo-ji Temple. The gateway was the model for Akira Kurosawa's film "Rashomon" and was also used in the later film "Bijo to Tozoku". The design is simple but grand. The street that leads to the gateway is known for its large weeping cherry tree.
