Hinohara-mura, Okutama-machi, Tokyo,

An exhilarating day-hike from Tokyo offering superb views of Mt. Fuji

Mt. Mitou has three peaks, with the highest rising to 1,531 m. (The name "Mitou" itself means "three peaks".) The main trail up the mountain is maintained by the Hinohara Tokyo Citizens' Forest association and can easily be enjoyed by beginners.Rewarding views of Mt. Fuji from the western summit make it well worth the effort.

You can choose from hiking trails ranging from a 1-hour stroll on the "Forest Therapy Road," to routes that will take 4-5 hours. To fully experience the mountain, take the route starting at the Hinohara Tokyo Citizens' Forest association's "Forest Hall." Then, visit Mito Waterfall and pass the beautiful beech trees on your way up to the summit. There are rest spots with great views along the trail.
