Hotel Zen Tokyo is scheduled to open later this month and strives to provide its guests with an "urban ryokan" experience by combining teahouse-inspired elements with a modern capsule hotel layout. Thanks to its zen minimalism-based aesthetic, guests can fully appreciate each carefully selected aspect of traditional Japanese architecture.
The hotel offers five types of pod-style rooms, each suitable for a single occupant and furnished with a Western-style bed. While the pods vary in size, all have 2.2 meter (7.2 feet) high ceilings. Two types are corner pods, meaning they are slightly roomier and feature special wood and concrete detailing. Every pod comes fully equipped and is decorated with the Japanese principle of wabi-sabi in mind.
Guests are free to relax in their pods or mingle with others in the multifunctional basement cafe/bar. During the day, the space acts as a cafe and offers light meals and Japanese sweets. At night, it transforms into a bar lounge where guests can enjoy drinks and live music performances. Those who choose to explore the surrounding Ningyocho neighborhood will find plenty of spots to try local food. Additionally, the hotel's location offers convenient access to nearby culturally rich areas such as Asakusa, Ryogoku, Ueno, and Akihabara.
