Main content starts here.

The Whale Festival started in 1961, when a whale fossil dating back some 1.6 million years was discovered in Akishima City. The Yume Hanabi firework display is held on the first night of the two-day festival in August. Experience the force of starmines up close from the venue situated near the launch area. Myriad events are organized too, like a parade starting at Akishima Station South Exit, where local groups put on creative displays and an enormous whale brings the festival to a climax. Don’t forget to visit the refreshment booths and see the stage shows at Showa Park athletics stadium.
