Have a long stay at an island where gods gather

Kozushima Island is located nearly in the middle of the seven Izu Islands. This island is only about three hours and 45 minutes from Tokyo by high-speed boat, making it a good place to take a short weekend trip. It certainly isn’t a big island, but it offers sufficient things to see to fill up a short two-day trip over a weekend.

The first thing to see is Mt. Tenjo, which stands in the center of the island. It is designated as one of Japan’s New 100 Mountains Famous for Flora. Despite its height of 574 meters, visitors can see alpine plants that usually grow at heights of around 2,000 meters. The view of the blue ocean from the summit will surely cause your heart to beat fast. Brilliantly colored rhododendrons bloom on the white sand dunes behind the summit area, creating a mystical landscape.

No matter where you stay on the island, you will be able to enjoy the bounty of the Kozushima Island seas. The island has a booming fishing industry, so you can enjoy fresh seafood in any season including spiny lobster, red squid, marlin, and more.

The island also offers many things that can’t be experienced in only two short days, including hot springs with ample waters and the Akazaki Promenade that allows you to walk along the clear ocean. The name of “Kozushima” contains the character for “god” – how about taking a slightly long vacation and traveling to this island where the gods gather?
