Nikko

Nikkosannai

Tosho-gu, Futara-san Shrine, and Rinno Temple are referred to as the 2 shrines and 1 temple. The "Shrines and Temples of Nikko," including the surrounding forest, are registered as a World Heritage.

Access

From Tokyo station/Tohoku Shinkansen "Yamabiko" or "Nasuno" -> Utsunomiya station/JR Nikko line -> Nikko station/Tobu bus for "Chuzenji Onsen" stop etc. -> exit Shinkyo

From Nikko station/Tobu Nikko line limited express or rapid -> Tobu Nikko station/Tobu bus for "Chuzenji Onsen" stop etc. -> exit Shinkyo

*JR offers Nikko/Shiobara area excursion tickets, and Tobu Railways offers Nikko/Kinugawa ticket sets.

Toshogu Shrine

Enshrining Tokugawa Ieyasu, this has undergone numerous expansions and renovations with the techniques of woodworking masters under the supervision of Iemitsu. The bright colors and flamboyant sculptures are its distinct features.

About a 10 minute walk from Shinkyo bus stop.

Rinnoji Temple

As a Shugen-do center for mountain worship, it's counted as one of the three Tendai Buddhist sect temples together with Hieizan Enryakuji temple and Toeizan Kan-eiji Temple.

Futarasan Jinja

This was the center of worship until Tosho-gu was built. There are many sacred trees on the grounds.

Edo Wonderland Nikko (Nikko Edomura)

A theme park recreating the townscape of the Edo era. You can enjoy attractions such as historical plays, ninja shows, and trick houses.

From Tobu Kinugawa-Onsen station, about a 20 minute ride on the Tobu bus to Nikko Edomura

Tobu Wonrld Square

Famous buildings and sites of the world such as pyramids and Eiffel Tower are faithfully recreated at a 1/25 scale, so you can almost feel like you're travelling abroad.

From Tobu Kinugawa-Onsen station, about a 5 minute ride on the Tobu bus for Tobu World Square. Or a 8 minute walk from JR Kosagoe station.

Western Vilage

A theme park recreating the U.S. during the settlement of the West. In the park, there are Western shows that involve the audience.

From Tobu Kinugawa-Onsen station, about a 15 minute ride on the Tobu bus toward Nikko Edomura. Exit Western-mura (village) entrance

Nikko Saru Gundan (monkey theater)

A hilarious play is performed by cute monkeys. Each performance is about an hour, and 3-5 shows are scheduled a day.

From Tobu Kinugawa-Onsen station, about a 17 minute ride on the Tobu bus for Nikko Edomura. Exit Osaru no Gakko-mae stop.
