This course lets you enjoy a hike over Mt. Takao where you can experience rich nature while still near the big city. Go up the mountainside in a cable car that boasts the steepest incline in Japan and head for the summit.
There are some Yakuoin temples that are the symbol of mountain worship sprinkled over the mountain, so you can visit temples while mountain climbing. Climb to the top while experiencing the rich nature and history of the temples. If the sky is clear, you can see Mt. Fuji from the top.

*This is a hiking course, so please come in clothes that do not restrict movement and sneakers or other good shoes for hiking.
*The guide service may not be available if the weather is bad.
*Depending on the local weather, you may have to stop and go back down before reaching the summit.
*The local area becomes very busy in May and from mid-October to early December, so the route may change or take longer during these times.


Tokyo Tourist Information Center Busta Shinjuku → Shinjuku Station → Takaosanguchi Station → Mt. Takao promenade → cable car → lookout → Tako-sugi (octopus tree) and Hippari-dako statue → Yakuoin → Mt. Takao summit → descent → cable car → Takaosanguchi Station → Shinjuku Station → Busta Shinjuku (end)

Regarding Guide Services 

  • This guide service is provided by volunteers, and transportation is mainly by public transport or walking.
  • The participants for the guide service should be up to 5 people.
  • It will be accompanied by 2 tour guides.
  • Participants are required to pay the costs for an accompanying tour guide.
  • The fees shown here are for one participant. The price changes depending on the number of participants. We will notify you of the actual fee by email.
  • The fee for guide services should be paid with Japanese Yen.
  • Among the participants, there must be at least one person over 20 years old.
  • Some facilities may be closed depending on the day of the week. We ask for your understanding.
  • The time and date of departure changes depending on the course, so please check the details for each course.

* The fee is the amount required for transport and attraction admission fees. (Including the fees for two guides). It also includes the amount required for the guides to return to Shinjuku after the guidance finishes. The guidance itself is free of charge.

Regarding bookings

  1. To apply for a tour, click the “Apply here” button.
  2. We require you to inform us of your first and second preference for course and time/date. Please understand that we may be unable to offer guidance on your preferred date depending on volunteer schedules.
  3. Bookings are required from one month to three days prior to your preferred guidance date.
  4. After submitting your booking, we will send a response within a week. For bookings made from one week to three days before, we will respond the day before your preferred date at the latest. Be sure to include your contact details in Japan.
  5. To cancel a booking, please contact us at least one day prior.
