Mechthild Duppel

Lecturer: German literature and comparative literature at Sophia University in Tokyo

Graduating from Frankfurt University in Germany and with a research background in German, Japanese, and comparative literature, Prof. Duppel has lived and worked in Tokyo for over ten years. Her scholarly work draws from a wide range of cultural interests, focusing on comparative studies in German and Japanese culture.

There are many places around Tokyo where you can feel the presence of great people who shaped the history of Japan, as the nation transitioned from the feudal Edo period (1603-1867) into the modern Meiji era (1868-1912).
