BENI MUSEUM 紅ミュージアム

1F K's Minami Aoyama Building 6-6-20 Minami Aoyama, Minato City, Tokyo

A museum dedicated to the lipstick that shaped Japan’s cosmetic culture

Established in Aoyama in the year 2003, the Beni Museum is a museum dedicated to beni, a quintessentially Japanese red lipstick. Derived from the benibana, or safflower, this luxurious and cherished shade of red grew to prominence in the late Edo period (1603-1867) and became integral to Japanese beauty and makeup culture.

You can learn all about beni's history and manufacturing process, as well as Japan's makeup culture, in the exhibition room before making your way to the experience salon to try it on for yourself. If you like what you see, be sure to pick up a stick or two, as it’s one of the only places in Japan you can still get your hands on it.
