Betting on good fortune at Fukutoku-jinja
Fukutoku-jinja dates back to the 9th century and once held a strong following by military commanders. More recently considered a power spot or center of divine energy for winning the lottery, the shrine is also known as Mebuki Inari Jinja.
The shrine is located in the business district of Nihonbashi and provides a stark contrast to its commercial surroundings. One of the few authorized to conduct lotteries in the Edo period (1603-1867), it is visited by many praying for good luck in the takarakuji lotteries to this day.
