Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre 東京芸術劇場

1-8-1 Nishi-Ikebukuro, Toshima City, Tokyo

Experience music, dance and theater by Japanese artists at this contemporary performance hall

The Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre is a cultural hub and venue for a variety of shows and live performances. See theater, opera, and dance just minutes from the west side of Ikebukuro Station on the Yamanote Line.

Renovated and reopened in 2012, you can get lost in the music of top Japanese orchestras and feel the full range of emotions listening to famous operas thanks to brand-new sound systems. The Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre is one of the main venues for performances by the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, one of Japan's most renowned orchestral groups. Those who are more into the performing arts can choose to see a play or dance performance that covers contemporary Japanese issues like hikkikomori (living alone) and the Great East Japan Earthquake. Find out what's playing and where to get tickets on the official site.
