Pokémon Manhole “Poké-Lids” (Pokéfuta) ポケモンマンホール「ポケふた」

In Serigaya Park, 5-16 Haramachida, Machida City, Tokyo

Each Poké-Lid manhole cover is a totally unique design that is the only one of its kind in the entire world. The Pokémon Company has donated these covers to places throughout Japan to stimulate tourism. Six such manhole covers have been installed in Serigaya Park. These were the first such manhole covers placed in Tokyo. Satoshi Tajiri, the father of Pokémon, spent his childhood in Machida, which was still heavily forested, where he was the number-one insect expert in his class. His experiences there are said to have inspired him to create Pokémon.
