Tokyo Bunka Kaikan was built as part of the project to celebrate 500 years since the birth of Tokyo. It was opened in April 1961. It was designed by Kunio Mayekawa and is known as a representation of modern architecture. This building includes a main hall with 2,303 seats for holding opera, ballet, orchestra, and other performances. There is also a ricital hall with 649 seats that is used for chamber music, recitals, etc. Other facilities include rehearsal rooms, conference rooms, and a music library.
