Japanese Lantern Plant Fair (Hozuki-Ichi) ほおずき市

2-3-1 Asakusa, Taito City, Tokyo
2023-7-9 - 2023-7-10

Note: The 2023 installment of this event has already taken place.

Sensoji Temple, built in 628, is said to be the oldest temple in Tokyo. It's a popular spot among locals, but it also draws big crowds of visitors from all over Japan—and beyond.

There is a belief that a prayer offered on July 10 brings 46,000 days' worth of blessings, so this is always a very special day. Over 100 stalls are set up to sell hozuki (Japanese lantern plants, so called because of their shape) on the temple grounds. Enjoy the sound of wind chimes, the vivid colors of the flowers, and the sight of so many people strolling around in colorful yukata. Visit the temple for a truly festive example of life in the old heart of Tokyo.
