Hara Museum was renovated from a private residence built in 1938, and opened in 1979 as one of the first museums in Japan dedicated to contemporary art. It presents art from in and outside the country through events such as lectures and performances, in addition to five or six exhibitions a year. Facilities include a museum shop and a café facing the courtyard accessible only to museum visitors.
