Beach-Opening Event 日本一早い海びらき

Chichijima, one of the Ogasawara Islands, holds an event every January 1st to mark the earliest opening of public beaches in Japan.

There's a lot to look forward to here on New Year's Day, starting with a Shinto ceremony in which a priest prays for safety at sea. Afterward, the beaches are declared open. You can then enjoy local performing arts, a traditional rice cake-throwing ritual, and a prize raffle. Visit the Ogasawara Islands for a unique and unforgettable New Year that both locals and visitors can enjoy.
