A New Year’s countdown party will be held on December 31 on Chichijima Island of the Ogasawara Islands. On January 1, an event will be held to mark the opening of the beach to the public, the first such event held in Japan each year.
The countdown party will start at around 11 p.m. and feature Ogasawara rum and local passion fruit liqueur, as well as a slideshow looking back at the past year in Ogasawara. These and other events will make it an exciting party for both visitors and local residents. There will be a countdown to midnight, followed by a fireworks display to welcome the New Year. Once January 1 has arrived, numerous activities will take place, including the opening of the beach preceded by a prayer for maritime safety by a Shinto priest, local performing arts shows, a traditional rice-cake throwing ritual, and a raffle. The raffle will include many attractive prizes! 2018 will mark the 50th anniversary of when the Ogasawara Islands were returned to Japan. Also, this year’s party will feature a new menu lineup. How about welcoming the New Year with a celebration unique to the Ogasawara Islands that will be a fun experience for both visitors and local residents?
