The eighth Shiritaogi of Sakitama-hime is enshrined at this shrine, and this shikinaisha (shrine listed in the Register of Deities) is also know as the Shiritaki Shrine. The lava field to the left of the shrine had a natural whirlpool until it was buried by a subsequent eruption in July, Showa 15 (1940). In addition, according to legend when Kotoshironushi crossed over to Miyake-jima, it is said that the deity's first step was upon this land, making this land the origin of the events of the Miyake-jima mythology. Although the shrine was buried by mudslides caused by a volcanic eruption in June of Heisei 12 (2000), after returning to the island the shrine was rebuilt.
