Miyake Nature Center’s Akakokko Station was opened in 1993 by Miyake Village near Tairo Pond as a base to allow people to interact with nature and in order to pass Miyajima Island’s unique nature to future generations. It was closed from September 2000 due to volcanic activity, but was reopened in July 2005. Rangers are always stationed at the Akakokko Station to help people deepen their understanding of nature.
