Megane-iwa Rock was formed by waves eroding lava from the 1643 eruption of the volcanic island. It resembled a pair of spectacles (megane) until one of the “lenses” collapsed in the earthquake triggered by the 1962 eruption. Find the spot that looks through the remaining lens at Sanbondake, or the three peaks of the Onohara Islands.
