An old-fashioned building that looks just like a lighthouse is visible from atop the Takanawa Bluff in Minato City. This is the Takanawa Fire Station Nihon-enoki Branch Office, a fire station which has been providing protection to the Takanawa area for 78 years since its establishment on December 28, 1933 and is still active today.

The three-story building features dynamic lines and curved surfaces, and the design is representative of German Expressionism (which was popular after World War I). The round turret that soars into the sky above the third floor is called the “lookout tower" and functions as a lookout post to watch for the outbreak of fires.

Visitors to this building can enjoy tours of a fire station that is also a historical building (please note that the firemen may be out on a fire call).
