The Nogi-jinja Shrine Summer Festival is a community event for the whole family. It's being held for the first time in five years to mark the shrine's 100th anniversary. A big draw will be the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, who are playing the taiko drums in a ceremony for the shrine's deity.
On the grounds of the shrine you will find yo-yo fishing (fishing for balloons), kakigori (shaved ice) stalls, and all manner of festival food staples. There will also be an antique fair and handheld fireworks, like sparklers. A seafood grill will be available courtesy of Hakodate Nogi-jinja Shrine and Otobe Hachiman-jinja Shrine. For adults, there will be beer and Japanese sake available. Visitors of all ages will find something to enjoy at this festival.
