Kameido Tenjin Shrine Wisteria Festival 亀戸天神社 藤まつり

3-6-1 Kameido, Koto City, Tokyo
2024-4-6 - 2024-4-30

Wisterias begin blooming in early to mid-April. These lovely lavender-colored flowers hang in bunches, and are especially beautiful when dangled from trellises.

Kameido Tenjin Shrine has been called the best place in Tokyo to see wisteria in bloom. Beneath the wisteria trellises is a quiet pond, creating a tranquil scene of purple flowers reflected on the surface of the water. These wisteria vines were planted during the Edo period (1603-1867). Records indicate that Tsunayoshi, the fifth Tokugawa shogun (military commander), and Yoshimune, the eighth Tokugawa shogun, visited this shrine to see the wisteria. These legendary flowers are also the subject of many ukiyo-e prints and other works of art.

As you walk to Kameido Tenjin Shrine from the station, enjoy the atmosphere of the neighborhood, which is right in the old heart of Tokyo.
