Kyu-Furukawa Gardens Spring Rose Festival 春のバラフェスティバル

1 Nishigahara, Kita City, Tokyo
2024-4-26 - 2024-6-30

Designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty, the Kyu-Furukawa Gardens are a rare example of a garden completed in the style of the early Taisho era (1912-1926). Roses bloom in a variety of beautiful colors and surround visitors with their lovely fragrance within the grounds. The location is famous for its roses, and the perfect time to visit is in May, when the Kyu-Furukawa Gardens host a spring rose festival. Huge crowds of visitors attend this festival each year.

A Western-style house designed by Josiah Condor during the Taisho era presides over the grounds. It makes a stunning complement to the approximately 200 rosebushes of 100 different varieties in the Western-style garden. Rose varieties include the Maria Callas, and also the Royal Princess, which is dedicated to Japan's Princess Aiko.
