Hachioji Ginkgo Festival 八王子いちょう祭り

Koshu Road, Hachioji-shi, Tokyo | Area around Ryonan Park, from Oiwakecho Intersection to Kobotoke Sekisho ruins
2023-11-18 - 2023-11-19

Note: The 2023 installment of this event has already taken place.

The stunning rows of ginkgo trees along Hachioji's Koshu Road (also known as Koshu-kaido Road) were planted during the Showa era. In autumn, their beautiful yellow leaves provide the perfect setting for a festival. Local residents organize the Hachioji Ginkgo Festival, held while these autumn colors are vibrant. The festivities include a bazaar, tourism exhibit, stage shows and orienteering. For the orienteering event, grab a tsuko tegata, a wooden block that served as a transit pass in ancient times, and take a tour around 12 checkpoints. The festival is a chance to walk along the rows of golden ginkgo trees and witness the Hachioji residents' love for their area. The retro ambiance is a particularly charming.
