Tokyo's postcard-perfect cherry blossom spot

A 700-meter-long lush green walkway along the moat of the Imperial Palace, and one of the top spots in Tokyo for viewing cherry blossoms, visit Chidori-ga-fuchi Moat between late March and early April for pastel pink views.

Tips

  • Strolling under a canopy of cherry blossoms
  • Visiting the area at night during cherry blossom season, when the trees are illuminated
  • Renting a rowboat to explore the moat

Flanked by hundreds of sakura trees of differing varieties, the moat is draped in pink by the blossoms during cherry blossom season. In the evening, the trees are illuminated for romantic after-dark strolls and rowboat rides.

Cherry blossom season or not, consider renting a rowboat to explore the moat from the water. Rowboat rental is available from March through November, ceasing during the winter months.
