Events and Experiences of Traditional Culture in Nihombashi, Tinted Sakura Pink

History of Nihombashi

Nihombashi Bridge was completed in 1603 with the establishment of the Tokugawa shogunate. In 1604 it was designated the starting point of the Five Routes connecting the capital of Edo with outlying provinces of Japan. The district named after the bridge attracted merchants and artisans serving the shogunate and flourished as a castle town. With the opening of theaters and prestigious restaurants, all genres of culture bloomed in Nihombashi.
