Candy Showtime Omotesando

Candy Showtime is a popular establishment with six stores in Tokyo that display the process of making candy. In the made-to-order service, select a basic design on which to add hiragana or alphabet characters of your choice. Both soft packs (34,000 yen for 60 bags) and bottles (40,000 yen for 50 bottles) take two to three weeks to complete. Products are shipped anywhere in Japan (for a charge). For overseas shipping, check with the store.

Sekkado Akasaka Main Store

Sekkado is a prestigious wagashi confectioner founded in 1879. Bring a character or photograph, and the store will design the image into unique wagashi based on dorayaki pancakes, manju buns, and fine unbaked wagashi in a selection of sizes. Orders are also accepted to exclude allergenic ingredients. It takes about two weeks from order to completion. Inquire directly about prices, as they vary with size and decoration. The store will be happy to wrap and ship the product (in Japan only for a charge).

Deco Choco Store Shibuya Spain-zaka

Deco Choco Store is a unique chocolatier that carries some 500 bite-size chocolates in packaging designed with hiragana characters, alphabet characters, and emoticons, which can be combined to compose an original message. Customers may also bring data and place an order on the store’s dedicated computer to make a one-off Deco Choco in packaging decorated with that image. The price is 2,916 yen for a set of 45 pieces. For a rush charge (540 yen), the order will be completed in a minimum of two hours. The establishment also runs a store in Ginza.
